Plumbing…..

When you call a plumbing company, what do you really look for?  With too many companies out there, it can be very hard to choose the right company.  Sure plumbing companies are all supposed to know exactly what to do and anyone can plumb, right?  Ha, ha….wrong!  Make sure, as a homeowner, when you hire a company, they are fully licensed and insured.  Make sure the technicians are qualified as well.  After all, the definition of a plumber is to protect the health and well being of the people in the household.  So, plumbers are more like doctors.  Attention to peoples’ health and safety is first and foremost!  So….get to know your plumbing company BEFORE you need them…..because when you need a plumber, you need a plumber!

HARD WATER AND ITS’ AFFECT ON TOILETS

In South Carolina, we have a lot of hard water and water that is high in acid content.  One of the most common causes of toilet tank parts failing is this.  As a homeowner, staying up on checking your toilet tank parts can save you from a house flood or even save you from hearing that annoying fill valve go off at 3:00 a.m. every morning that wakes the baby up.  Here is a tip:  put a few drops of food coloring in your toilet tank.  Let it stand for 10 – 15 minutes and DO NOT FLUSH!  If the color appears in the bowl, your toilet needs some TLC.  It could need a new flapper, flush valve or gasket.

HOT DRAIN LINE JETTING

USING HIGH PRESSURE HOT WATER KEEPS YOUR DRAIN SYSTEMS FLOWING BETTER!

CABLE EQUIPMENT:

Cable equipment is very effective at removing a clog, however, cabling leaves tons of uncleaned surfaces.  These uncleaned surfaces lead to premature line buildup and blockage over time.

COLD WATER JETTING:

Cold water jetting does an excellent job of flushing lines.  The large water units move debris well and they have their market.  The problem is cold water does NOT remove all the grease build-up.

HOT WATER JETTING:

Hot water scours and breaks down the grease film inside the pipes.  Combined with a degreasing agent, it removes more grease buildup and blockage.

Hot water jetting helps clean and remove grease, hair, soils, fats, roots, ice buildup and descaling.

Hot water jetting is effective on many applications such as, restaurants, hotels, grocery stores, apartments, commercial buildings, office buildings, residential and stores.

WHY HOT JETTERS:

For years, plumbers have used cable machines and cold water jetters to unclog pipes.  Technology changed and we have engineered new equipment that cleans pipes with hot water.

When we use hot water jetters, pipes are cleaner and stay cleaner longer than when we used cold water jetters and/or a cable rodding machine.  Hot water jetting is not only cost-effective, but makes the cleaning easier and faster with less mess.

The equipment used in commercial and residential lines is very important.  We use only the best equipment.  it is important to not hurt the pipes and to do this, we use special engineered nozzles designed to scour the inside of the pipes.  Hot water jetting is the most effective course of action.

Choosing a company with the right equipment to fit your specific need and at the same time provide maintenance and service repairs is an absolute necessity.

Hot Water Not Working? Easy Repairs For Your Gas or Electric Water Heater

Most Horry County and Georgetown County homes have either a gas or electric hot water heater.  While tankless water heaters provide water on demand, gas and electric hot water heaters use a storage tank as a ready reservoir.  Do not be nervous about fixing these traditional storage water heaters, no matter how large or daunting they may seem.  Even if you are standing in your towel, staring at the seemingly large and daunting cylinder, which just wrecked your shower, rest assured you are the bigger being.  When you are dry and calm, ready to confront the unruly apparatus, there are some quick and easy measures you can take to lend a helping hand and revive the heater (and your hot water).

Hot Water Heater

Necessary Precautions Before Any Fixing:

  1. Flip the circuit breaker or fuse to turn the power off.
  2. Switch the pilot control valve to “pilot” setting.
  3. The heater water supply needs to be shut off.

Probable Reasons For Not Getting Hot Water:

  • Broken Gas Pilot
  • Broken Gas Pilot Control Valve
  • Broken Gas Thermocouple
  • Broken Upper Electric Heating Element
  • Broken Electric Thermostat

Some Quick and Easy Repairs YOU can make:

  1. Check to see if the pilot operation and gas pilot flame to figure out if they are working.  Remove the metal cover at the bottom of the water heater. Is the flame lit at the end of the pilot gas supply tube?  If the flame is no longer lit, follow the guidelines on your tank to relight the flame.
  2. If the problem is the gas thermocouple, you may need to tighten, reposition , or replace it.
  3. Sometimes the gas pilot control valve just needs to be replaced.
  4. When you remove the thermostat cover, check the high limit switch.  If the switch has tripped, reset it.
  5. Replace the upper thermostat if the upper heating element is without power.
  6. Is power going to the electric thermostat?  If power is provided, but the thermostat is not working right, replace the thermostat.

Hopefully by now, you have shown your hot water heater who is boss and come to be on better terms.  In the event none of these solutions did the trick, the problem may be more serious.  You can call your Myrtle Beach, Georgetown County, or Horry County plumber to answer any questions you have, or to have him come out and give your hot water heater a look.
