Backflow Testing & Prevention

Backflow is a potentially dangerous problem that can make your water unsafe for your family to drink and bathe in. Unfortunately, determining whether you have a backflow problem in your system can be difficult without help. If you are concerned about backflow in your system, Dependable Service Plumbing & Air is here to help.

What is backflow?

Backflow is a problem that occurs when the flow of water in the pipes is reversed. This can allow contaminants to enter the water you use, which could make you or other members of your family sick.

Many different situations can cause backflow. Some of the most common causes of this problem include:

  • Having a water system supplied by a well
  • Line flushing
  • Firefighting
  • Breaks in city water line
  • Problems with water hoses
  • Toilet flush valves without an anti-siphon device

When should I test for backflow?

In general, it is best to have your system tested for problems with backflow at least once each year. You should also test for backflow if you notice any of the following issues:

  • Water appears cloudy or discolored
  • Visible leaks in backflow assembly or discharge
  • Any other problems with your existing backflow prevention system

“We are truly grateful for everyone’s quick response to our flood in the main building here at St. Cyprian Church. The workers were tremendous in their search-and-find techniques to locate our buried sewer main line. The clean out was a difficult and tedious job but they stayed with it for hours. On Friday, business was as usual here and it would not have been if your company had not come out to the rescue. I’m sure the parishioners are happy to know that the bathrooms are available and that our problem has been eliminated. Be assured that your kindness and efficiency are appreciated. We are also grateful that you recognize our financial limitations. May our gracious God bless you all for your care.” –-St. Cyprian Staff
